Castle Keeps
Almost all of the restaurants my mother, Dot, and her friends and family visited in the 40s have disappeared. So it's nice to find one that is still around. White Castles may not look quite like this 40s-era structure, but the hamburgers are still the same. Just as good as they were when she went their with her brother, Tuesday, March 27th, 1945. Only they're not a nickel. (Today's diary entry >)

I recall cold weather images of steamy little burgers that my sisters or mom bought for me in that tiny but fascinating 'castle' it was on the north side of 63rd about 1/2 way between the Englewood and Southtown theaters or shows as we always called them. centrally located. The big challenge was deciding how many to order 3-4-5 more?
ReplyDelete63rd Street was so busy, I remember my father telling me that there was a white castle at 63rd and union and one at 63rd and Harvard
