I found the elusive picture of Merle Lodding, Dot's upstairs neighbor from when the family lived on Brighton Place. The photo is here, with a larger, uncropped version here. Now if I can only find Ralph Davis...
There's also a new photo related to Parnell's (the spot for Cherry Cokes). It's a contemporary view of the L (Green Line) tracks that run just a half-block south of the restaurant's location.

Dot's Diary Blog: Stories and background information related to Dorothy's 1945-46 personal diaries. Dot, my mother, was 17 in 1945, living in the Englewood neighborhood on the south side of Chicago.
Dot's diary entries are accompanied by pictures from her scrapbook and, in some cases, by recollections from her younger sister Louise (“Sis”), and by the news of the day. I've also added comments of my own.
